Stoppard on the Radio
With our aim to bring more high-quality theatre to Farnham, the Farnham Theatre Association (FTA) was delighted that the Brightwells Creative Space converted successfully into a small studio theatre for one night during the Farnham Literary Festival. A sell-out performance on 15th March of Tom Stoppard’s radio play Albert’s Bridge, enacted by Farnham Rep, was very enthusiastically received. The company was under the joint direction of Brenda Longman of the Rep and David Edwards from FTA. Having promoted this first venture in Brightwells, FTA is eager to explore the possibilities for further events of this kind in the community unit - until a venue better suited to full theatre performance can be found.
Director David Edwards said, “We were delighted that the Farnham Literary Festival gave us this opportunity to present the work of the renowned playwright, Tom Stoppard. The author had visited the Redgrave Theatre himself in 1987 to guide the cast of Rough Crossing and we were thrilled to bring his work back to a live audience in Farnham for the first time in nearly forty years.”
